La casa posible. Renovation of the Can Balaguer building in Palma for tourist use

The Department of Culture for Palma City Council has promoted the restoration and adaptation of the Can Balaguer building, a building with traditional Mallorcan architecture from the 18th century that belonged to the philanthropist and musician Joan Balaguer, and which until now was the headquarters of the "Círculo de las Bellas Artes de Palma" (Fine Arts Circle of Palma).

This restoration project, which has been present in two editions of the Venice Biennale and which aims to reconfigure the space to improve its attractiveness to tourists and enhance its historical and cultural relevance, has been developed by restoring the original appearance of the building and taking action in its different rooms.

For this purpose, different exhibition rooms have been set up with interpretative signage offering information about the building's furnishings and the lifestyle of the residents of Palma de Mallorca's stately homes.

This initiative arose as a result of the need to boost the dynamism of its Old Town and enhance the value of the local heritage it houses, thus diversifying Palma de Mallorca's tourist attractions.
