Public Sound Sensor Safety project. Artificial Intelligence, monitoring and sound sensors to identify and predict conflicts in real time

To solve the issues linked to security and harmony in the city, the Eindhoven local council, together with a range of technological partners, has set up the Public Sound Sensor Safety project.

This is a smart monitoring system to detect any type of conflict based on the analysis of sounds detected by 20 sensors installed in street lights in the Stratumseind area. These sensors register and measure the sound levels present in this part of the city in real time. The information obtained through these devices is monitored by a surveillance system installed in the police station, where the data collected is shown in the form of a heat map of sound, allowing local authorities to easily and simply view, interpret and understand the different situations taking place in the area.

The system has a smart classifier that uses artificial intelligence to identify sounds and differentiate them by the kind of incident (dispute, attack, etc). If an incident is detected, the security forces are automatically informed via a notification sent to a pre-installed app on their communication devices, which provides them with the exact location where the incident or potentially risky situation is happening. Moreover, it uses a system of surveillance cameras to monitor the situation and allow decisions to be made in real time to optimise operational management and decision-making.

The Public Sound Sensor System project is part of the framework of technological solutions developed by the City Pulse Project initiative, which promotes the adoption of technology to solve problems associated with security and harmony in the city.
