The region of Valles Alaveses is located in the extreme southwest of the Basque Country. It comprises a series of small valleys whose rivers (Inglares, Ayuda, Zadorra, Bayas, Omecillo…) flow into the Ebro, which vertebrates the western part of the region from its entrance through Sobrón to its exit in Zambrana.
The region of Valles Alaveses is commonly known as Cuadrilla de Añana, one of the seven historical regions that make up Alava, in which 9,500 people live spread over its ten municipalities and more than a hundred villages throughout its 700 km2 of surface area.
The rural character of this region is not at odds with its easy accessibility from the main urban centers of the neighboring provinces, which allows a constant transit of people to work in their companies and to get to know its rich heritage and tourist attractions in short distances.
Cereal crops predominate in its valleys, with the exception of the millenary Añana Salt Valley, and the use of the mountains for livestock in some villages at the foot of the Arcena or Badaya mountain ranges, among others.
The presence in our region of dozens of rural houses, agritourism, restaurants that are supplied by local producers, campsites located in places of great natural beauty… do the rest.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | The county began the Smart Tourism Destinations methodology in October 2022 and has completed the DTI diagnostic process in 2023, for its transformation into a Smart Tourism Destination. |

The Salt Valley, declared a Historic Monument, has become one of the great symbols of the area. It is an imposing open-air cultural landscape made up of more than 5,000 threshing floors, on which the earth is poured to obtain salt by solar evaporation.
In the westernmost area is the Valderejo Natural Park, an ideal place for recreation and contact with nature. A network of trails allows the visitor to discover the beautiful landscapes of this natural space. The largest colony of griffon vultures in the Basque Country lives in Valderejo. |
