Outstanding initiatives
|
Below are the most notable initiatives:
- Analysis of large volumes of data to understand the tourist profile and analyze the mobility patterns of visitors: Initiative carried out in Barcelona where, thanks to the development of partnerships with information provider entities, financial services companies, telecommunications companies and/or other entities with capacity for data analysis, has used Big Data & Analytics techniques, as well as IoT sensors as a lever to improve processes related to tourism management, allowing the collection and analysis of information related to behavior and mobility patterns. of tourists.
- CityFlows: Improving the liveability of busy pedestrian spaces by providing decision support for the management of pedestrian flows: The EIT-KIC CityFlows project tests and evaluates several innovative crowd monitoring techniques in real-life environments where large crowds are found, such as mass events, tourist spaces and transfer centers. In the case of Barcelona, 8 RFID sensors will be installed in Park Güell and 1,000 reusable RFID tags will be distributed for a week with the aim of collecting information on visiting patterns. Through this technique, it will be possible to determine the most visited spaces, differentiate the heritage visit from the recreational one, the duration of the visit or the rest spaces. Through these parameters, the managers of this UNESCO World Heritage site will be able to rationalize the influx of visitors, guaranteeing correct access to the site, a decrease in pressure on the environment and an adequate visiting experience.
- Commitment to tourism sustainability “Barcelona Biosphere”: This commitment recognizes tour operators who are committed to responsible and respectful management of the environment, culture, working conditions, gender equality and social and economic return. Through compliance with a series of requirements, Barcelona City Council makes available to tour operators the opportunity to join the Barcelona Biosphere Commitment to Tourism Sustainability. This accession is based on a manual of good practices that is brought together in the seventeen sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Barcelona City Council subsidizes the total cost of this process to companies in the city and those that belong to the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. In 2023, almost 500 companies in Barcelona will have obtained Biosphere certification.
- New surcharge on the tax on stays in tourist establishments
- Promotion of inclusive tourism
- Implementation of new technologies to make visits to the city’s tourist resources more inclusive
- Barcelona Zoo: development of an accessible chatbot designed for people with visual, auditory and cognitive accessibility needs or people with disabilities for mental health disorders. It’s called Zoobot, and it works with your cell phone or tablet.
- Park Güell: through the use of an application that adapts the contents to the needs of the user: improvement of the experience of people with cognitive (intellectual and autism spectrum disorder), sensory (auditory and visual) and physical ( mobility and organic) that visit it.
Both tools have been selected through a public innovation competition promoted by BSM. Its selection and subsequent development has been made with the support and accompaniment of the Municipal Institute of Persons with Disabilities and entities of the Accessibility and Independent Life Network of the Citizen Agreement for an Inclusive Barcelona.
