Cáceres, the provincial capital located right in the heart of the autonomous region of Extremadura, has been one of Spain’s World Heritage Cities since 1986, as it is one of the finest living examples in the world of how the Middle Ages and Renaissance once were, boasting numerous palaces, buildings and co-cathedral.
It is also renowned for its internationally renowned cultural events such as the WOMAD Festival and Easter Week, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest and which deftly combines tradition with monuments.
It was also awarded the title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2015 and is home to eight designations of origin and two protected geographical indications.

Outstanding initiatives
|
- The Cáceres Smart Heritage project has been set up with the aim of conserving, enhancing and raising awareness of heritage, gaining greater insight into the behaviour of visitors and citizens in their relationship with the city, activating strategies to build visitor loyalty, diversifying the consumption of the range of services on offer, and building a management system and model capable of strengthening the local business sector. One of the main initiatives has been the development of a mobile app for tourism, along with the Cáceres Card.
- Innovative activities have been implemented to further complement the tourism offering, including the so-called Innovative Tourist Routes, with the aim of getting to know other attractions of the city apart from the jewel in the crown, which is unquestionably the old quarter.
- The city belongs to various major supra-municipal associations such as the Network of Heritage Cities, OCPM, the Network of Jewish Quarters and the Ruta de la Plata (the Silver Way).
