The municipality of Comillas is located on the western coast of Cantabria.
It has about 2,200 inhabitants and an area of 23 km2.
Comillas is the cradle of modernism, it has six assets declared of “Cultural Interest”: Buildings and Gardens of the Pontifical University, main façade of the cemetery, Cueva de la Meaza, Sobrellano Palace, pantheon chapel and park according to its primitive perimeter and the Historical complex of the Villa de Comillas. Also notable is its beach and cliffs.
Its economy depends on services and commerce, for 70% of the total, in addition to the primary sector (livestock, agriculture and fishing). The tourism sector represents 38% of the destination’s employment. Hence its commitment to the DTI model.
Comillas is a benchmark in cultural, family tourism and the roads of Santiago and Lebaniego. Second home tourism has enormous weight.
