CUÉLLAR, A TOWN SURROUNDED BY A SEA OF PINES
Cuéllar, located 50 km from the province of Segovia, is a must-see town. With a population of approximately 10,000, it was a place of great importance to kings and queens such as María de Molina, Pedro I, and Juan II, who loved it so much that he gave it to his daughter Isabella the Catholic.
Therefore, a walk is essential to discover all the heritage it houses, from its impressive castle, belonging to the Dukes of Alburquerque, and its walls, both declared National Artistic Monuments, to its churches, most of them in the Mudejar style, the Jewish quarter, the emblazoned houses, and the mansions of great noble families such as the Velázquez family.
Due to their current importance, many of these monuments have been declared Assets of Cultural Interest. To name a few, we find the Palace of Pedro I, one of the few Romanesque civil monuments in Spain; the Church of San Martín, which today houses the Mudejar Art Interpretation Center; and the Church of San Esteban, which houses beautiful Gothic-Mudejar tombs, etc.
Therefore, you shouldn’t forget to visit this Mudejar island surrounded by a sea of pine forests.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | Cuéllar joined the Smart Tourism Destinations project in 2021. In 2022, it conducted its first diagnostic process, culminating in the preparation of the Diagnostic Report and Action Plan for its transformation into a Smart Tourism Destination. In 2025, the diagnostic assessment for the renewal of the distinction as a Participating Smart Tourism Destination was completed. |
