CUÉLLAR, A TOWN SURROUNDED BY PINE TREES
Cuéllar, 50 km from the province of Segovia, is a must-see municipality. With around 10,000 residents, this town has been an important location for kings and queens such as María de Molina, Peter I and John II. John II loved Cuéllar so much that he gifted it to his daughter, Queen Isabella.
You must stroll around to discover its heritage, from its impressive castle (dukes of Albuquerque) and its walls, both declared National Artistic Monument, to its churches, most in the Mudéjar style, its Jewish quarter, its mansions bearing coats of arms and its small palaces owned by great noble families like the Velázquez.
Given their importance, many of these monuments have been declared Property of Cultural Interest, for example, the Palace of Peter I, one of the few civil Romanesque monuments in Spain, the church of San Martín (the Mudéjar Art Interpretation Centre), and the church of San Esteban, which features beautiful Gothic-Mudéjar tombs.
That is why you must not miss this Mudéjar island surrounded by pine trees.
