El Ejido has built a reputation as an excellent destination, suitable for all travel trends and holiday types. Aside from the sun and the beach, there is a wide range of cultural, gastronomic, leisure and sporting activities on offer, focusing on golf, sailing and windsurfing.
This makes this municipality in the southeast of Almeria the perfect option for combining tranquillity, entertainment and superb beaches, which have been awarded Blue Flags, “Q” for Tourism Quality and SICTED at Almerimar and Balerma.
It has a truly remarkable gastronomic wealth, a strict nature reserve, namely Punta Entinas-Sabinar, which possesses immense ecological value, including a natural beach of outstanding beauty and numerous trails to explore. On top of all this, tourism is now emerging around its main economic activity, namely intensive agriculture, an area in which El Ejido is a global benchmark for its innovation, technology and for being the largest producer of fruit and vegetables in Europe.
El Ejido is also culture and art, thanks to its Theatre Festival which has been going for 42 years and is now an internationally recognised event. It is also history, as you can relive its rich heritage by visiting monuments and landmarks such as the Castillo de Guardias, the archaeological remains of the Ciavieja site, or the Daymun mausoleum.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | El Ejido joined the Smart Tourism Destinations programme by drawing up the Diagnostic Report and Action Plan needed to turn it into a Smart Destination, which it carried out in May of 2018. |
