Estepona - Smart Tourist Destination

Estepona, located in a privileged enclave, captivates its visitors in each of its corners. Its renovated old town, one of the most beautiful in Andalusia, offers tourists the chance to enjoy an authentic urban garden, “El Jardín de la Costa del Sol”. Its network of white streets, adorned with colorful pots full of flowers, give it the essence of an Andalusian coastal town. It preserves its customs and traditions and has made them live in total harmony with its more modern and tourist aspect.

Its location between the sea and the mountains, its excellent climate, its modern infrastructures, its high-quality sports facilities, its hotels, its gastronomy and its varied cultural offer, make Estepona a preferred destination on the Malaga coast.

Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme

Estepona joined the Smart Tourist Destinations programme through the preparation of the Diagnostic Report and Action Plan for the transformation of it into a Smart Tourist Destination, carried out in July 2023.

Outstanding initiatives

GARDEN OF THE COSTA DEL SOL. With this project, an attractive city model has been created throughout the year for citizens and visitors, which breaks with the tourist seasonality. More than 130 streets have been renovated and embellished, new streets and squares have been created that improve the city and connect the urban fabric, making municipal heritage the identification and uniqueness factor of the city. The presence of flowers and vegetation in the streets has become one of the hallmarks of Estepona.
OPEN AIR MUSEUM: murals, poetry and sculptures. Estepona is committed to culture and exhibits art in its streets. Outdoor sculptures by prestigious artists, poetry in different languages, artistic murals that decorate the facades of buildings and give life to its streets.
BOULEVARD. Large landscaped pedestrian boulevard that opens the city to the sea and generates one of the best promenades in Spain.
COASTAL PATH. The Coastal Path is an important tourist, environmental and sports resource. It is a path that allows you to walk along the coast by the sea enjoying natural spaces of great value.
VIEWPOINT OF CARMEN. The Lookout Tower is a vantage point from which to enjoy impressive panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, it is a great cultural facility as it houses a library, a music conservatory, an auditorium for events and an exhibition room.
