Fuengirola is a coastal town of 85,581 inhabitants, situated on the Costa del Sol, and one of the biggest tourist destinations in Europe. Its very name immediately conjures up images of long sandy beaches, tall apartment blocks, warm summers and mild winters. It boasts eight kilometres of beaches integrated into the town centre, which have earned the “Q” for Tourism Quality and Blue Flag awards, and its splendid promenade opens out to the sea like a giant balcony.
It also has a rich historical heritage left behind by the various peoples who settled there, including the Phoenicians, the Romans and the Arabs. Outstanding examples include the Arabian Sohail Castle or the Finca del Secretario Roman site, with its Visitor Centre for the thermal baths.
Its streets are vibrant and full of shoppers and the city has three municipal markets, a large shopping centre, and two traditional flea markets are held every week, as well as an antique flea market on Saturdays.
Young people, children and adults alike are sure to be entertained in Fuengirola: BIOPARC animal park, numerous children’s playgrounds, city tours on the tourist train, romantic horse-drawn carriage or boat rides, cinemas, lively nightlife areas or concerts at the Marenostrum, one of the most spectacular outdoor music venues and one of the most exclusive stages in Spain.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | Fuengirola joined the Smart Tourism Destinations programme in 2020, and its Diagnosis Report and Action Plan were drawn up in 2022 for its ultimate transformation into a Smart Destination. |
