Guadalajara is an ancient, dynamic, accessible and intimate city, with excellent connections to the rest of Spain. In the last century, it has undergone significant demographic, economic and urban growth.
It offers excellent amenities, green spaces and a range of services, such as a university, a hospital, sports facilities and theatres, revealing high quality of life within the city. In addition, Guadalajara synergises well with the wider province (of which it is the capital city and indeed entry point), which offers a wide range of rural, cultural and nature tourism pursuits.
Guadalajara spans a total area of 235 km2 and has a population of some 85,000 inhabitants.
The logistics sector is the main economic activity, and as a tourist destination it has earned renown for its family, sports, cultural, cinematographic and culinary tourism.
In 2019, Guadalajara welcomed around 160,000 tourists.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | The city of Guadalajara joined the Smart Tourism Destinations programme in May 2020, and its Diagnosis Report and Action Plan were drawn up in the autumn of that year ahead of its ultimate transformation into a Smart Destination. |
