Hellín, a three-thousand-year-old city strategically located between the plateau, the Murcian coast and the east. Its two UNESCO heritage sites bear witness to the passage of different cultures: Iberians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims.
The “Sistine Chapel” of Levantine Cave Painting, the Abrigo Grande de Minateda, is part of the Tolmo de Minateda Regional Archaeological Park, a spectacular settlement inhabited from the Bronze Age to the 20th century.
The unique cultural perspective of its Easter Week, and its Tamboradas, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage, feature 20,000 drummers touring the old town, which stands out for its size, its details and its cultural variety.
The natural landscape of Hellín is the great enigma. The Cancarix Volcano, a seven-million-year-old natural monument, is the second largest lamproite volcano in the world and has minerals that can only be found on the Moon.
Its two rivers meet at the “end of the world”, the Mundo and the Segura rivers; its bomba rice, D.O Calasparra, with crop landscapes more typical of Cambodia or Vietnam; and its wine, D.O Jumilla, which make up high-quality gastronomy.
Hellín is a diamond in the rough whose visit promises an experience for the senses.
