Surrounded by the rivers Torío and Bernesga, the city of León is the second most popular starting point of the St James Way for pilgrims and one of the most popular destinations for inland tourism in Spain.
It has a rich cultural heritage, including the MUSAC Museum of Contemporary Art, the cathedral with its famous stained glass windows, the Botines house —which is one of the few examples of Gaudí’s art outside Barcelona—, and the convent and parador of San Marcos.
It was named Spanish Gastronomic Capital in 2018 and is included in the circuit of congress destinations at state level, as part of the Spain Convention Bureau network.
It has a high-speed AVE train, an airport and a road network, thus offering excellent connections with the main cities of Spain.
Among its most important festivals is Easter Week, which has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | León joined the Smart Tourism Destinations programme by drawing up the Diagnostic Report and Action Plan needed to turn it into a Smart Destination, which it carried out in October of 2018. |
