Surrounded by the rivers Torío and Bernesga, the city of León is the second most popular starting point for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago and one of the most popular inland tourism destinations in Spain.
It has a rich cultural heritage, including the MUSAC Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cathedral with its famous stained glass windows, the Casa Botines, which is one of the few examples of Gaudí’s art outside Barcelona, and the convent and parador of San Marcos.
It has a high speed train AVE, an airport and a road network that allows communication with the main Spanish cities.
Among its most important festivals is Easter Week, which has been declared a Festival of Tourist Interest.
Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme | León developed its first diagnosis in January 2018, resulting in the Diagnosis Report and Action Plan for the transformation of León into a Smart Tourism Destination. In December 2024 it has completed the monitoring process. |
