A destination with a population of some 16,000 inhabitants and spanning 924 km2.
The agricultural sector and the service sector, which includes tourism, are its main economic activities.
Ambroz-Cáparra extols the great natural and cultural assets and values of Extremadura, a region with an important cultural, artistic and environmental heritage, as well as intangible traditions, festivities and popular folklore, which is ultimately a legacy of the different civilisations to have inhabited the region through the centuries.
Heritage values as remarkable as the Vía de la Plata and its Roman road, which crosses the destination, and the Roman baths of Baños de Montemayor, the ancient Roman city of Cáparra, the medieval town of Granadilla and the Jewish quarter of Hervás. All places where you can enjoy the fantastic “Magical Autumn” cultural programme of the Ambroz Valley, the Roman Theatre Festival of Mérida in Cáparra, or the “Los Conversos” festival in Hervás.
Outstanding natural assets such as the spectacular chestnut forests of the Ambroz Valley, or the refreshing bathing areas found in the Ambroz, Alagón or Cáparra rivers or in the Gabriel y Galán and Baños reservoirs, among others, make the destination a truly privileged place for nautical tourism.
All of them make Ambroz-Cáparra a destination for revelling in cultural and nature tourism, ornithological, gastronomic, sporting (rock climbing, hang-gliding, fishing, kayaking, hiking, cycling, etc.) and thermal tourism, and general wellbeing within a stunning rural environment.
The El Anillo International Centre for Sports Innovation in the Natural Environment, a benchmark institute within Spain, places this destination at the forefront of sustainable development, innovation and knowledge in the field of sports.
