Salou, considered one of the best tourist destinations in Europe and the main tourist spot on the Costa Daurada, spans an area of 15.1 km² and has 26,775 inhabitants.
Salou bases its tourist activity on sun and beach and family tourism, though it also offers leisure and sports activities and excellent gastronomy. The Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT) has awarded it the Sports Tourism Destination badge for football and sailing due to the superb quality of its sports facilities, as well as the Family Tourism Destination badge for being a municipality that is particularly sensitive to this segment of demand.

- Salou is firmly committed to technology thanks to the Smart Tourist Salou project. Funding is received from Red.es for the implementation of technological components to improve service efficiency and focusing on aspects related to tourism within the municipality.
- Salou has a tourism board to ensure effective governance, as well as a strategic tourism plan to provide a vision that looks purely tourism, to include the DTI pillars, among other aspects.
- Salou is committed to accessibility, especially on its Ponent and Levante beaches, which feature quality accessibility infrastructure and services.
