Santiago del Teide - Smart Tourist Destination

The historic town of Santiago del Teide, located on the island of Tenerife, is a tourist destination full of natural, cultural and historical charm.

Situated between the mountains and the ocean, it offers a unique blend of volcanic landscapes and coastline. One of its main attractions is the Los Gigantes Cliffs, impressive volcanic rock walls that rise up to 600 metres above the sea. From here, visitors can enjoy boat trips to see cetaceans, such as dolphins and whales, in their natural habitat. In addition, Santiago del Teide is known for being the gateway to Masca, a picturesque hamlet nestled in a ravine, famous for its hiking trails with spectacular views. The Ermita de Santiago Apostol hermitage, the old town and the almond blossom plantations in spring add a cultural and traditional touch.

Admission to the Smart Tourism Destinations Programme

The Historic Town of Santiago del Teide joined the Smart Tourist Destinations project through the preparation of the Diagnosis Report and Action Plan for the transformation of Santiago del Teide into a Smart Tourist Destination, carried out in December 2023.

Outstanding initiatives

Study on the environmental impact and carrying capacity of the most visited areas.
Improvement of energy efficiency in lighting and public facilities.
Awareness-raising campaign on energy saving, water and waste management for tourists (high season) and the population in general (all year round).
Aid programme for SMEs to improve the quality of service, digitalisation, sustainability and accessibility of their businesses.
