Tejeda, in the Cumbres region of Gran Canaria, is 44 km from the island’s capital and 22 km from San Mateo. Located at an altitude of 1,050 meters, it is famous for its Pico de los Pozos de las Nieves, which reaches 1,949 meters and houses one of the island’s landmarks: Roque Nublo, a huge basaltic monolith over 70 meters high, formed as a result of volcanic activity and erosion.
But Tejeda also boasts a rich archaeological heritage with pre-Hispanic remains such as burial caves, engravings, paintings, and dated houses, as well as museums such as the Abraham Cárdenes Sculpture Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, and the Medicinal Plant Center. Furthermore, the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora del Socorro and the Parador Nacional are points of interest.
