The municipality of Torroella de Montgrí-l’Estartit is located in the Baix Empordà region of Girona, in a hugely diverse geographical setting of enormous environmental value.
It spans a total area of 66 square kilometres, which includes an immense diversity of ecosystems and landscapes that range from mountainous terrain, most notably the Montgrí Massif, through to the Baix Ter plain and then on to the maritime strip, with the Medes Islands as the most prominent feature. The Baix Ter plain, the Medes Islands and Montgrí form an ensemble that in 2010 was declared a nature reserve, with 68% of the park lying within the region of Torroella-l‘Estartit.
Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit is a municipality that has been growing and adapting to modern times and modelling its tourist attractions to cater to the experiences and needs of its users, who are becoming increasingly demanding, with more varied and specific tastes and interests. Its rich landscape, culture and heritage make it a fabulous destination all year round, whether to enjoy a long relaxing holiday, or for a short break and all manner of sporting activities.

Given its unique heritage, the municipality is clearly committed to sustainability in all areas (environmentally friendly tourism development, mobility, energy saving, optimisation of forestry and public management, recovery of spaces, etc.); to the promotion and protection of natural sites and their habitats, and to the restoration of heritage within these areas, including iconic buildings, paths and other emblematic sites. This tireless work has earned the destination the following official accolades: “Q” for Tourism Quality, Blue Flag, Green Destinations. |
