Valladolid is a dynamic and modern capital city like no other, leaving an indelible mark on anyone who visits it.
We find ourselves in the land of Kings, where the finest artists have left their legacy and where Cervantes, Zorrilla and Miguel Delibes drew inspiration for their work. The city can also boast of its rich heritage and the majestic grandeur of its churches, including La Antigua, San Pablo and the cathedral.
The year kicks off with Pingüinos, the largest winter motorcycle rally in Europe. Other attractions during the year include Easter Week, which has been declared an event of international tourist interest, the International Street Theatre and Arts Festival and the “Valladolid, Plaza Mayor del Vino” wine festival.
Valladolid is also a UNESCO Creative City of Film, and every October it rolls out the red carpet for the Valladolid International Film Festival – SEMINCI.
Yet Valladolid also has places where you can enjoy the environment and appreciate what is a very sustainable city. Taking a stroll through the Campo Grande park, or along the banks of its five rivers, is a wonderfully relaxing experience for anyone looking to get to know the secrets of this land.
And when you talk about tapas you might just as well be talking about Valladolid, all thanks to its wide range of quality products. The National Tapas Competition and the World Tapas Championship are held here every year. It is also the only province on the Iberian Peninsula that has five Designations of Origin with which to pair these culinary delights.

Valladolid joined the Smart Destinations project in 2021, the year in which the Diagnosis Report and the Action Plan were drawn up for its ultimate transformation into a Smart Destination. |
Outstanding initiatives
|
- Valladolid is a brave city that for some time now —in 2011, it was recognised as a “Science and Innovation” city— has been working towards sustainability through the Smart City Network, of which it is a member and in which it actively participates. Whether alongside other entities or on its own behalf, Valladolid has promoted and taken part in numerous projects related to knowledge, new technologies, the environment and other pursuits for the ultimate benefit of citizens and visitors.
- Valladolid is becoming, day by day, a more accessible city. The 2nd Municipal Accessibility Plan, currently in force, seeks to create environments that are practicable and safe for everyone. Culture and tourism are among the sectors affected by the Plan, which transcends many fields. In relation to tourism, highlights include the efforts made by the city to improve its museum spaces and in implementing a series of guided tours of the city accessible to citizens and visitors.
- The current “Strategic Tourism Plan for the city of Valladolid 2021–2023. Advancing the future” is the roadmap and the smart response (SD) aimed at strengthening governance, making the city more competitive, promoting new products and restoring and conserving its cultural and environmental heritage.
- To aid with its tourism governance, the city is supported by the Tourism Board, which brings together representatives from the entire sector, and by a public-private body for tourism management, namely Sociedad Mixta para la Promoción del Turismo de Valladolid S.L. It is also involved in several networks, including Saborea España, which plays a vital role in promoting gastronomy and wine —two of Valladolid’s main tourist attractions—, and has been recognised by UNESCO as a Creative City of Film.
