The digital transformation of the tourist destination is a factor in the value chain of smart cities. Incorrect planning or complete lack of planning can lead to delays and errors, and most importantly, failing to provide the destination with the full potential of the value chain.
The aim of this solution is to strategically plan the digital transformation, linking Smartcity and 5.0 technologies, as part of a successful transition from analogue to digital (A2D).
The digital transformation requires a plan that foresees the pillars of transformation. In the case of Smart Tourism Destinations in Spain, there are major strengths when it comes to creating data space for visitors. However, the picture must be bigger and encompass a master plan for technologies and the destination’s digital business models.
The Digital Transformation Plan focusses on the smart city of the future, into which the destination will be converted, helping to frame the current transformation of tourism. The digital enablers of hybridisation between the real and digital world, BIM and digital twins, must be implemented, in addition to other technologies that contribute to the goals set in relation to accessibility, sustainability and governance.
BIM and digital twins offer important benefits, such as technologies particularly oriented towards the construction and operation of real estate, urban and territorial assets. They makes it possible to plan 5G and IoT deployments, microlocation for navigation in indoor spaces in destinations and digital licences for tourist activities.
The strategic tourism plans with a focus on this specific area of the data economy applied to the destination are in addition to the digital transformation plans, in such a way that the Smart Tourism Destination must have access to them in order to propose a genuine digital transformation of the destination.
